Kominfo builds Smart Cities and DHNs to support green economy

In the National Long-Term Development Plan 2025-2045, the Government reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development through economic transformation involving digital transformation and the application of green economy.

The Government strives to build a digital economy that is environmentally friendly and sustainable. The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has begun developing green infrastructure.

Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Budi Arie Setiadi, stated that the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has developed smart city programs and the establishment of Green Data Centers (PDH).

"As a concrete initial step to support the green economy, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology is developing green infrastructure through sustainable smart cities and establishing environmentally friendly and sustainable data centers," he explained during the Green IMPACT Day - For Indonesia's Food, Water, and Energy Resilience, at Sasana Budaya Ganesha, ITB Bandung, on Monday (29/04/2024) as reported in the Kemkominfo press release.

According to Minister Budi Arie, the Smart City Program is implemented based on six main pillars, namely (1) Smart Governance, (2) Smart Branding, (3) Smart Living, (4) Smart Economy, (5) Smart Society, and (6) Smart Environment.

"The second effort, the development of PDH, is planned to receive Green Building Certification (BGH) and Platinum Certification from the Green Building Council Indonesia," he added.

Although there are still challenges such as digital infrastructure gaps and high costs of adopting green technology, Minister Budi Arie emphasized that green infrastructure initiatives must continue.

"We must be able to solve it together, with the hope that similar initiatives that promote environmental protection can continue for the sake of our beloved Earth," he expressed.

Minister Budi Arie also congratulated all the Winners of NESC 2024. "Hopefully, they can become the next generation of the nation capable of competing nationally and globally," he said.

The event was attended by Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Bambang Hendroyono, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Dadan Kusdiana, CEO of Rakyat Merdeka Group Kiki Iswara Darmayana, as well as senior officials from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
