Internet speed in Indonesia ranks 101 out of 141 countries

Indonesia ranks 101 out of 141 countries for the highest mobile internet speed in January 2024. Its position dropped 4 ranks compared to the previous period.

The internet network in Indonesia is getting faster in 2024. According to the latest report from 'We Are Social' compiled from Ookla, the median speed for both mobile and fixed-broadband internet has increased.

The median mobile internet speed has increased by 42% for downloads, reaching 24.53Mbps. Upload speed increased by 27.2% to 13.2 Mbps. Internet latency decreased by 3.7% to 26ms. Meanwhile, the median fixed-broadband internet speed also increased by 16% for downloads, reaching 28.34Mbps. Upload speed increased by 37.7% to 16.85Mbps. Latency remains constant at 7ms.

Despite the acceleration, Indonesia's ranking is still behind several neighboring countries when viewed globally. Indonesia ranks 101 out of 141 countries for the highest mobile internet speed in January 2024. Its position dropped 4 ranks compared to the previous period. The number is even lower for fixed-broadband internet speed, ranking 126 out of 181 countries. This ranking remains unchanged from the previous period.

Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei, Laos, Cambodia, and the Philippines are ranked higher than Indonesia for both mobile and fixed-broadband internet speed. For comparison, Singapore ranks 23rd (down 5 ranks) and Malaysia ranks 30th (up 8 ranks) for mobile internet speed. Additionally, Singapore maintains its position at number 1 for fixed-broadband internet speed, while Malaysia ranks 39th or down 1 rank, according to Ookla's website.
