To address the need for digital human resources, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Baparekraf) is selecting 1,000 participants to attend the Baparekraf Developer Day 2024 in Bandung

The BDD 2024 program is aimed at enhancing the capacity and competence of stakeholders in the creative economy, particularly in the subsectors of applications, gaming, web development, and IoT (Internet of Things).

According to the e-Conomy SEA 2023 report by Google, Temasek, and Bain & Company, Indonesia's digital economy was valued at 82 billion USD in 2023, with a projected growth to 109 billion USD by 2025. However, the high digital skills gap remains a major obstacle.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno acknowledged the digital skills gap between demand and availability of workers as a significant challenge. He emphasized the need for acceleration to narrow this gap, especially as Indonesia approaches its demographic bonus.

"There are currently many job openings for digital workers, presenting both opportunities and challenges for us," he said during the Baparekraf Developer Day (BDD) in Bandung on Monday (3/11/2024), as quoted from the Kemenparekraf website.

To address this need, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Baparekraf) has selected 1,000 participants to attend BDD 2024, a program aimed at enhancing the capacity and competence of stakeholders in the creative economy, particularly in the subsectors of applications, gaming, web development, and IoT, held in Bandung, West Java.

In his virtual address at the BDD 2024 event on Saturday (3/9/2024), Sandiaga Uno appreciated the organization of Baparekraf Developer Day once again, this time with the theme "Bridging the Digital Skills Gap: Paving the Way for Digital Indonesia."

The theme was chosen due to the existing digital skills gap between demand and availability of workers in the subsectors of applications, gaming, web development, and IoT.

"I appreciate and thank the participants who have come from outside the city to attend this event. Digital skills are crucial for boosting Indonesia's economy," said Minister Sandiaga.

The BDD program is expected to lay a solid foundation for creating a young generation that is creative, innovative, and competitive in the digital era while eliminating the digital divide.

BDD 2024 features several practitioner speakers who will provide learning in six tracks. These tracks include android developer, front-end web developer, machine learning developer, multi-platform app developer, back-end developer, and data scientist. The selection of these six learning tracks is tailored to the current industry needs.

"We hope the six learning tracks in the BDD 2024 event and discussions will be beneficial for the future digital economy," said Sandiaga.

Dora Songco, Product Marketing Manager at Google Indonesia, as one of the speakers, stated that they also have programs this year to support the enhancement of digital talent in Indonesia, particularly focusing on startup developers, students, and job seekers.

"These programs not only focus on tech skills but also on soft skills, which are equally important. With 900 hours of online learning, we hope to create top graduates who can work in both domestic and international companies," said Dora Songco.
