The Minister of Communication and Information stated that this extremist content is being disseminated in various forms such as text, photos, pamphlets, and videos. The materials also target any social media user.

The Ministry of Communication continues to monitor and handle content containing radicalism ideology in digital spaces. Apart from dealing with content, Minister Budi Arie Setiadi stated that they receive and follow up on reports from the public through cyber patrols for processing according to applicable regulations.

"As of July 7, 2023, to March 21, 2024, the Ministry of Communication has handled 5,731 contents containing extremism, radicalism, and terrorism on various digital platforms," he explained at the Ministry of Communication office in Central Jakarta, Friday (22/03/2024), as quoted from the Ministry's press release.

According to Minister Budi Arie, the social media platform Meta is the most widely used platform for spreading extremist ideologies or content.

"The dissemination of the content can be done in several forms such as through text, photos, flyers, videos, and targeting any society members expected to be influenced by such ideologies," he said.

The Minister of Communication considers radicalism content to be an ideology seeking extreme changes both socially and politically. Therefore, the Government is striving to prevent the spread of radicalism content to avoid causing divisions among fellow countrymen.

"If not managed carefully, this could potentially pose a very serious threat to the unity and integrity of the nation," he emphasized.

To suppress the spread of radicalism content in digital spaces, Minister Budi Arie continues to strive for prevention through three steps: increasing digital literacy, encouraging the public to fact-check, and report harmful content through the aduankonten.id channel. In addition, the Ministry of Communication also follows up on reports from ministries and institutions including the Police, the National Counterterrorism Agency, and the Military.

"So, we receive reports from many parties. If there is content containing terrorism, radicalism, and extremism ideologies, we immediately take it down from digital spaces," he said.

The Minister of Communication assesses that the current spread of radicalism content is much lower compared to previous years.

"Now the condition is cooler, and society, especially those who fill digital spaces, can no longer tolerate radicalism content that divides the nation," he concluded.
