Maintain the technical standards of telecommunications device security, emphasized the Minister of Communication and Information, stressing that collaboration is key

Minister Budi Arie stated that IDTH will play an optimal role as a platform for collaboration and synergy between the government, industry, MSMEs, academia, and the community in developing innovative technology solutions.

Telecommunications devices that meet security technical standards and pass testing are one of the prerequisites for circulation in Indonesia. The Ministry of Communication and Information conducts testing of telecommunications device security technical standards through the Telecommunications Device Testing Center (BBPPT) of the Directorate General of Resources and Equipment of Posts and Informatics of the Ministry of Communication and Information.

Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi stated that collaboration is key to maintaining internationally standardized telecommunications devices.

"Telecommunications devices must be safe from radiation and other disturbances in society. If there is no one to ensure their security, then what? This is the role of the Indonesia Digital Test House (IDTH). So, in daily life, the role and function of this lab are indeed very important," he emphasized in a Press Conference after a Visit to Check the Preparation for the Inauguration of IDTH at BBPPT Tapos, Depok, West Java on Thursday (02/05/2024) as quoted from the Ministry of Communication and Information press release.

Furthermore, it supports the growth of the domestic digital ecosystem, making it a catalyst for innovation.

"The development of talent is important, this is also the pentahelix. We collaborate with universities for learning facilities, such as UI, ITB, ITS, Telkom University, Polytechnic State of Semarang, and Bandar Lampung University. Because universities are one of the centers of excellence," he explained.

According to the Minister of Communication and Information, the IDTH currently being implemented by BBPPT as a testing laboratory has three strategic roles in device testing. First, "protect," which refers to protecting human health and safety from non-compliant emissions from devices that may interfere.

"Second, 'gate,' refers to the role of IDTH as a gateway for the inflow and outflow of electronic products for export and import, including assisting domestic industries in entering the global market," he revealed.

The third role relates to spectrum management. According to Minister Budi Arie, it is part of national frequency spectrum management that guarantees interoperability and protection from interference among device users to enhance user experience.

Minister of Communication and Information stresses that IDTH also plays a role in providing mentoring and infrastructure for digital solution development.

"Through sandboxes, makerspaces, showcases. Currently, partnerships have been established with several stakeholders, including testing laboratories, universities, and communities involved in the field of telecommunications devices," he said.

In the future, Minister Budi Arie hopes this collaboration will continue to evolve, so that IDTH can provide space for Indonesian innovators to continue creating.

"Thus, IDTH also contributes to ensuring that Indonesia has a strong digital independence foundation," he concluded.

During a visit to BBPPT of the Directorate General of Resources and Equipment of Posts and Informatics of the Ministry of Communication and Information, Minister Budi Arie Setiadi was accompanied by Director General of Resources and Equipment of Posts and Informatics of the Ministry of Communication and Information, Ismail.
