India Gaming Show 2024 drives national gaming activation

The India Gaming Show 2024 is believed to provide an opportunity for Indonesian game developers to expand their reach, particularly with India.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, stated that Indonesia's presence at the India Gaming Show 2024 expands the reach of game development. He mentioned that this effort is also one of the follow-ups to the mandate of Presidential Regulation Number 19 of 2024 concerning the Acceleration of National Game Industry Development.

"The Indian gaming market itself is projected to reach $5 billion USD by 2025, and the India Gaming Show 2024 provides an opportunity for Indonesian game developers to expand their reach, particularly with India," said Minister Sandiaga, as quoted from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy's press release in Jakarta, on Wednesday (20/03).

In this event, the Indonesian Pavilion showcased four leading local game studios: Hexaplay, Anantarupa, Ginger Sun Studio, and Marica, as well as the Indonesian Game Developers Association (AGI).

Deputy Minister for Digital Economy and Creative Product at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, M. Neil El Himam, stated that the types of games in demand in the Indian market include Role-Playing Games (RPGs), action games, massive multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs), horror survival games, and sports games.

"India's policy of restricting access to gaming products from China also opens up significant opportunities that can be optimized for Indonesian gaming companies, both in B2B and B2C," said Neil.

Meanwhile, Director of Applications, Television Games, and Radio at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Iman Santosa, stated that Indonesia's involvement would open up collaboration opportunities from a business perspective.

"We hope that Indonesia's participation as a guest country will generate many business collaboration opportunities and, of course, lead to more gaming industry collaborations between Indonesia and India in the future," he said.

Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Mumbai, Edi Wardoyo, emphasized that India is one of Indonesia's largest and most important trading partners.

"The Indonesian government is committed to continuously enhancing bilateral cooperation with India, particularly in strengthening economic diplomacy in the trade, investment, and creative industries sectors," he said.

One significant achievement of this exhibition is the exchange of a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) between Anantarupa Studio and Jio Games for the exclusive licensing and publication of the Lokapala game in India through the Jio Games Ecosystem. Meanwhile, Ginger Sun Studio has received an initial commitment for publishing cooperation with Soft Source Publisher for the game "Unrivaled Heroes" worth $40,000 USD, and Hexaplay Studio is finalizing an NDA with Brinc Accelerator India for joint publishing cooperation on the Null Horizon game.
