Amid the overwhelming flow of information, President Jokowi reminded the public of the importance of having strong moral guidance to filter out truthful news and information.
President Joko Widodo emphasized the importance of strengthening Quranic values amidst the increasingly dynamic challenges of the digital era. This emphasis was conveyed by the Head of State during his speech at the opening of the 30th National Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (MTQ) 2024, held at the Gelora Kadrie Oening Stadium in Samarinda City, East Kalimantan Province, on Sunday evening, September 8, 2024.
"I sincerely hope that not only will the MTQ event itself improve, but more importantly, that the values contained in the Qur'an—such as honesty, justice, peace, and unity—are increasingly firmly practiced in our daily lives," said the President, as quoted from the official website www.presidenri.go.id.
President Jokowi reminded the audience that 48 years ago, Samarinda had hosted the National MTQ. He expressed confidence that this year’s event would be much better, with various innovations introduced, one of which is the use of digital technology in the implementation of the MTQ.
"It was mentioned earlier by the Minister of Religious Affairs and the Head of LPTQ, there are several applications being used: e-MTQ, e-Maqra, e-Scoring, and others," the President explained.
The President also addressed the phenomenon of the digital era, where people can easily access information through social media and online platforms. Amid this overwhelming flow of information, President Jokowi reminded the public of the importance of having strong moral guidance to filter out truthful news and information.
"We must check and recheck what is true and what is hoax or fake news. Therefore, people nowadays need strong moral guidance, which is religion," the President said.
Through the MTQ, President Jokowi hopes that Indonesians will deepen their love for the Qur’an and strengthen their moral and spiritual values in society, nation, and state. The President also expressed his hope that the public would see the MTQ as more than just a competition showcasing the ability and beauty of Qur'anic recitation.
"It should also be a moment to exalt the Qur’an, to bring its teachings into practice, and to strengthen the moral and spiritual values of the nation in the fabric of community, national, and state life," said the President.
In closing his speech, President Jokowi expressed his appreciation and congratulations to the participants of the 30th National MTQ in 2024. The event, attended by thousands of participants from 38 provinces across Indonesia, is expected to serve as a platform for spreading Islamic teachings and strengthening the public’s love for the Qur’an and humanitarian values.
"Congratulations on participating in the Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an. I hope your participation brings benefits and welfare in promoting Islamic teachings and fostering love for humanitarian values in Indonesia," concluded the President.
